Description: summarizing data by graphical and numerical methods, sampling distributions, t, chi-squared and F distributions, the central limit theorem, point estimation, consistency, bias, mean square error, confidence intervals, relative efficiency, sufficient statistics, minimum variance unbiased estimators, the method of moments, the method of maximum likelihood, hypothesis testing, type I and type II errors, lemma of Neyman-Pearson, simple linear regression model, estimation by least squares, design of experiments, analysis of variance, chi-square tests, contingency tables, Bayesian statistics, nonparametric methods.

Grading: Homework (20 %), three midterms (55 %) and a final (25 %). If you miss an exam (or homework), your score for that exam (or homework) will be a zero.

Homework: From time to time, I will give you a sheet of paper with problems to do at home. This is the "homework" which counts as 20 % of your grade. There will be one set of problems (between 5 to 10) for every chapter.

Midterm exams: Wednesday, February 18. Wednesday, March 17. Friday, April 16.

Final exam: Tuesday, May 11. 11:00 am-01:00 pm at AAG007.
