Chapter 19 Vocabulary
Population
The Class from which samples are taken.
Sample
The part of the population which is actually studied.
Parameter
Something to be measured in a population e.g.. average age.
Selection Bias
A systematic tendency to exclude one kind of person or another from the sample.
Non Response Bias
Distortion caused by non respondents.
Quota Sampling
Each interviewer is assigned a fixed quota of subjects meeting certain criteria
Simple Random Sampling
Drawing at random without replacement.
Response Bias
Answers by some respondents are influenced by the phrasing of the question.
Household Bias
Persons in large households are less likely to be selected because only one per household is interviewed.
