Welcome to Math 147B!

MATH 147B: Elementary Statistics is an introduction to basic statistical concepts. This course is potentially quite different from MATH 147: Elementary Statistics, so please read carefully the following. My course primarily addresses students who are, at least to some degree, quantitatively oriented. Accordingly this course might be somewhat more "mathy" than Math 147. Please read the Course description section of the syllabus for more on this.

Exams:

  • There will be 3 midterm exams and one final exam.
  • All exams will be administered in class (unless Covid forces us to move instructions online).
  • Each midterm exam will last 55 minutes and it will be worth 150 points.
  • The final exam will last 2 hours and it will be worth 300 points.

Midterms:

  • Midterm Exam 1: Wednesday, February 15
  • Midterm Exam 2: Monday, March 13 (originally was Wednesday, March 15)
  • Midterm Exam 3: Monday, April 17 (originally was Wednesday, April 19)

The times and dates are non-negotiable, so make all arrangements necessary to take the tests at those dates. The only events that might possibly change such a date would be cancelation of classes due to inclement weather. Specifically for exam 2, the date might change once the deadline for withdrawal is known.

Final exam:

  • Date of the Final Exam: Tue May 09, 2023 12:50 PM - 02:50 PM, LH 001
  • Final Exam makeup: TBD
  • Here is the direct link to the official Final Exams Schedule. You can also find that link on the Courses tab of the Math departmental web page.
  • Date and time for all finals are set by the registrar and there is no flexibility.
  • You can request a makeup final only if you have another final at the same time (direct conflict) or you have three final exams scheduled within 24 hours. If you want to request to take the alternate final then you must do so by Monday, April 24 2023, by sending an email to me and your TA.
