ERRATA in "Topological Methods in Group Theory" by Ross Geoghegan
This page is for significant
mathematical issues, and for misprints which could lead to confusion
or non-understanding. Minor misprints are not included.

ERRATA FOUND SO FAR:
Page 5 line 12, Page 6 line 21 and Page 7 line 7 :"if" should be "iff".
Page 85: Footnote 11 isn't quite right. The statement is true
for simplicial complexes on which G acts by simplicial isomorphisms.
Page 117 line 3- (of text): The following sentence was omitted:
When n>1 there is a homeomorphism of I^n swapping the two islands. Of course ...
Page 131 line 14: The reference should be to Sect. 1.5, not Sect. 11.4.
Page 134 line 16: m+n+1 should be m+n.
Page 138: Two vertical lines are missing from the left half of Fig. 5.3
Page 146 line 1-: There is an error in the definition of ``stack". The requirement that the diagram at the top of Page 147 commute is too strong. The diagram should only be required to commute up to homotopy rel \pi ^{-1}(C^{n-1}). (My thanks to Boris Okun and Kevin Schreve for pointing out that the original definition would lead to counter-examples to Proposition 6.1.4.)
Page 147 line 4 (of text): The reference should be to 4.1.8., not 4.1.7.
Page 148 lines 9 and 11: \Gamma should be V.
Page 158 line 8: The maximal tree in $X$ cannot be chosen as
indicated. However, it is not needed. Instead, choose base points
for each space mentioned, and base paths from each $Y$ to the $X$'s
which meet that $Y$. Then one has a generalized graph of pointed $CW$
complexes, and a correpsponding graph of groups (since base ponts go
to base points). The particular isomorphism to the fundamental group of $X$
will depend on the choice of base paths.
Page 177 line 1: \Gamma should be V.
Page 194: In (ii) of Theorem 8.3.12, FP_n should be FP'_n, where the latter is defined in Remark 8.3.16 on the next page.
Page 266 line1: The arrows should point to the left.
Page 397, line 3-: The word "normal" was omitted - each U_i should be a normal subgroup.
Page 450: An expanded version of the proof of Theorem 18.3.18 is found here.
INCORRECT REFERENCES
Page 62: The reference Milnor-2 in the Historical Note was omitted from the references. The reference is: Milnor, John W.; Stasheff, James D., Characteristic classes. Annals of Mathematics Studies, No. 76. Princeton University Press, Princeton, N. J.; University of Tokyo Press, Tokyo, 1974. vii+331 pp.
Page 128 line 3: The reference to Massey's book [110] should be to another of his books, namely
Massey, William S., Algebraic topology: an introduction. Reprint of the 1967 edition. Graduate Texts in Mathematics, Vol. 56. Springer-Verlag, New York-Heidelberg, 1977. xxi+261 pp. ISBN 0-387-90271-6. 55-01.
MY THANKS to Damien Gaboriau, Craig Guilbault,
Peter Landweber, Francisco F. Lasheras, Boris Okun and Kevin Schrieve for pointing out the significant errors.
