Date posted   Message
12/13/2019 a. The final grades for ALL students now have been posted to BB and also entered into BU Brain. Please review the announcement I posted earlier today for the meaning of the additional columns you will now find in BB
b. It was my privilege to be your instructor, and I hope that what you have learned in this class will benefit you not only for the remainder of your studies but also in your professional life.
Good luck and Happy Holidays to you all -- Michael Fochler --
12/13/2019 Section 5-8 students ONLY: Your final grades have been posted to BB. Several new columns for computed totals have been added. Their meaning:
  •   QSum = sum of all 12 quizzes   •   QuizAdj = Qsum minus your worst two quizzes   •   HwSum = sum of all 5 graded homework assignments   •   HwAdj = HwSum minus your worst graded homework assignment   •   TotSum = total points from ALL your quizzes + hwk + tests + attendance   •   TotAdj = TotSum minus your worst two quizzes and your worst graded homework assignment   •   Grade = your letter grade which will eventually show in your transcripts.
The grades for sections 1-4 should be on BB later than tomorrow (Saturday) evening.
12/9/2019 The solutions for midterm #3 have been posted on the course materials page.
12/3/2019 Important note for the Wednesday, 12/4/2019 lecture: Nick DeMarco will give a quiz for the section 1 and 2 students ONLY before the start of the lecure. The quiz will be finished before 8:30 AM. Students who are enrolled in sections 3-8 are not allowed to enter LH 14 until they are given permission to to so. Please wait outside and do not enter until you get the signal.
11/29/2019 It's a sure event: The sixth and last attendance will be taken on Wednesday, December 4.

c. The deadline for a request to take the alternate final is almost passed: you must send an email to me and your TA by Monday, November 25! The only persons who have done this so far are M. Bhowmik and R. Richter.
d. The lecture this Wednesday before Thanksgiving will cover material from ch.27 (two factor ANOVA) and possibly ch.25.7 (logistic regression). Those are optional topics and none of this material will be on the final or any quiz. Attendance will not be taken on that day.

9/18/2019 Note to students who take the exam at UTC: a. Be sure to to check your email carefully: The UTC confirmations are now sent to you by support@registerblast.com (the vendor of the new UTC registration software) and not by UTC.
b. I currently am not cc'd into those notifications, so please forward your notification to me so that I am in the loop.
9/17/2019 Math 148 UTS (University Tutoring Services) tutoring: I understand that Thomas Annesi is now tutoring for Math 148. Thomas took my class in Spring 2018 and he was a very good student. Check it out!

9/13/2019 Homework 5 has been posted. Due next week in discussion section. Remember that the (Pearson) SDM website has optional problems for you to work on.
9/5/2019 The following email was sent to the students who have extended time for exams: You have received this email because you have letters of accommodation and you have been granted time and a half for your exams. Since there are so many of you I have to schedule your exams at the University Testing Center: Your exam will start at the same time as the exam in lecture, but you will have additional time to finish the exam. I still am in the process of entering you to the UTC list, so I do not know how long it will take until you get that official confirmation.
If you have a letter of accommodation that grants you extended time and you did not receive that email then you must contact me and your TA immediately since I did not enter your data into my records and thus also not into the Testing Center database.

You will find there all the information you need about the course. Be sure to navigate all tabs. Check for new announcements regularly!
Blackboard (myCourses) has not yet been made available to the students. I use it very sparingly, only to make your grades accessible to you. Everything else you can find on my course website. This may be the only announcement you may ever find on the A0 (instructor's Blackboard) site.
Your grades will be posted by your TA on your discussion Blackboard. We do not use BB (Blackboard) to compute totals, and there are no reliable totals in myCourses until the final exam has been graded. In the meantime you will have do you your own adding up to get the totals.
5/15/2019 a. Be sure to look at all tabs of this website and to install the material on the DVD that comes with the text!
b. Homework 1 has been posted. It will not be graded. Syllabus and course material page now have information about registering with the MyStatlab website (also called the SDM website). Once you have access to MyStatlab you can access homework "MATH-148-CH-01" (optional) on that site.
c. Blackboard ("MyCourses") has not yet been set up for Math 148. We only use Blackboard to post the grades you get on your exams, quizzes and homeworks and to provide a PDF version of the syllabus. in addition to the HTML version found on this website.
d. If your discussion section is on Tuesdays then you will have your first section on August 27!
