Math 330 Announcements and Q&A

Note that there is a Q&A section below the announcements!

1. Math 330 Announcements

5/10/2017     Your final has been graded and all data for the course, including your projected letter grade, have been uploaded to Blackboard. I made a slight adjustment by adding 10 points to everyone's score (that's the difference between your "Grand Total" and "Grand Total Adj" columns).
I will finalize your grades by entering them into BU Brain on Tuesday, May 17. Those who elected pass/fail will see that instead of their BB letter grade in their transcripts.
It was my pleasure to be your instructor. Good luck! -- Michael Fochler --
5/10/2017     Corrected error in the home page and the syllabus: The tentative grading scale listed a range of 900 -1030 points for an A. This is technically correct, but you cannot obtain more than 1000 points. Accordingly, the range for an A has been updated as 900 -1000 points.
5/10/2017     a. All homework grades (1 - 19) are now on BB. The column "Hwk Total" shows you how many homework points out of 62 possible you earned. The column "Hwk Adj" shows you how those points translate into grade points.
Example: If your Hwk Total shows 31 points then that's 50% of 62 possible, so Hwk Adj shows 200 points (50% of 400 possible). If your Hwk total is x, then this translates into x(400/62) grade points.
b. If there are any discrepancies between BB and your assignments then contact me right now: This must be settled no later than Monday evening (the day of the final!

2. Math 330 Q&A
This Q&A section is expected to grow over time.

Topic   Issue
Homework     Q: What is the significance of the "Due Date"?
A: Not much: If you submit your first draft earlier and if I feel like it I'll grade your work beforehand. If you submit your first and hence last draft at the last submission date I won't penalize you for waiting so long (other than having no more sumissions to improve your grade).
Homework     Q: Homework re-submissions: Do I need to redo every proof that was already correct or just the proofs that were unsatisfactory?
A: You only redo the problems that I did not mark as "done". If I tell you not to rewrite but provide some specific detail then you do so and you mark those additions with a different color (not red - that's reserved for me) color and indicate that you did so on your new submission.
Homework     Q: Homework re-submissions: Do I have to also submit the old drafts?
A: Yes: Staple the new one on the TOP of the older ones!
Homework     Q: What about the multiple reading due dates?
A: a. The staggered due dates for reading will help you to space out your work evenly so you won't fall behind.
b. You may be quizzed about the reading that was due by day n as early as on day n+1.
General     Q: I am a student with a disability/an athlete and need special accommodations.
A: Send me an email and bring the signed form (athletes: your coach or team director, Students with disabilities: see the syllabus, "Students with disabilities" paragraph) to me. I'll review this form before I sign it. If there are no issues I'll bring it to my next lecture.
If you have a disability, chances are that I want to talk to you in person to understand better how I can accommodate you, possibly in excess to what your form requests.
