Welcome to Section 5 of Math 330!

You will learn in this course how to think like a mathematician. Your goal will be to understand the nature of a rigorous mathematically proof and how to write such proofs. The subject matter used to teach you this will be ••primarily taken from the theory of number systems and from real analysis.•• You will find more detail in the syllabus.

Withdraw deadline: Monday, January 29, at 11:59 PM

Exams:

There will be two midterms and one final exam. No notes, books, cell phones, or laptops are allowed for tests. Each midterm will last 60 minutes and is worth 100 points.

Exam dates:

Exam 1: Wednesday, February 28

Exam 2: Wednesday, April 11

Make all arrangements necessary to take the tests at those dates. The times and dates are non-negotiable.

Final exam:

The final exam counts for 200 points and it will last two hours.

Date and time for all finals are set by the registrar and there is no flexibility. Do not make travel arrangements that will have you leave campus prior to the exam. You can request a makeup final only if you have another final at the same time (direct conflict) or you have three final exams scheduled within 24 hours. If you want to request to take the alternate final then you must do so by Friday, April 27, by sending me an email.

Date of the Final Exam: Wednesday, May 16, 3:15 PM - 5:15 PM in SW 102.
Final Exam makeup: Wednesday, May 16, 5:40 PM - 7:40 PM in WH 222   -   Same day: Last day of finals!

2 Midterm Exams 100 pts each 200 pts
About 10 Quizzes Points may vary and will add up to a total of 200 points 200 pts
About 17 Homeworks Points are varying and will be scaled to a total of 400 points 400 pts
Total: 1,000 pts

TENTATIVE grading scale (unlikely to be adjusted):

850 - 899 pts   →   A- 900 - 1000 pts   →   A
700 - 749 pts   →   B- 750 - 799 pts   →   B 800 - 849 pts   →   B+
550 - 599 pts   →   C- 600 - 649 pts   →   C 650 - 699 pts   →   C+
500 - 549 pts   →   D Below 500 pts   →   F
