Welcome to Section 5 of Math 330!

You will learn in this course how to think like a mathematician. Your goal will be to understand the nature of a rigorous mathematically proof and how to write such proofs. The subject matter used to teach you this will be ••primarily taken from the theory of number systems and from real analysis.•• You will find more detail in the syllabus.

Exams:

There will be two midterms and one final exam. No notes, books, cell phones, or laptops are allowed for tests. Each midterm will last 60 minutes and is worth 100 points.

Midterms:

Exam 1: Monday, March 7.

Exam 2: Wednesday, April 13 (preliminary: may change once the withdrawal deadline is known).

Make all arrangements necessary to take the tests at those dates. The times and dates are non-negotiable.

Final exam:

The final exam counts for 200 points. It will last two hours.

Date of the Final Exam: Fri May 13, 2022, 10:25 AM - 12:25 PM at LN 1120

Final Exam makeup: Mon May 16, 2022, 10:25 AM - 12:25 PM at UTC

Date and time for all finals are set by the registrar and there is absolutely no flexibility. You can request a makeup final only if you have another final at the same time (direct conflict) or you have three final exams scheduled within 24 hours. If you want to request to take the alternate final then you must do so by Friday, April 22, by sending me an email.

About 10 Quizzes Points may vary and will add up to a total of 200 points 200 pts
About 18 Homeworks Points are varying and will be scaled to a total of 400 points 400 pts
Total: 1,000 pts

850 - 899 pts   →   A- 900 - 1000 pts   →   A
700 - 749 pts   →   B- 750 - 799 pts   →   B 800 - 849 pts   →   B+
550 - 599 pts   →   C- 600 - 649 pts   →   C 650 - 699 pts   →   C+
500 - 549 pts   →   D Below 500 pts   →   F
